Construction is communication. Safety plans, scheduling, budget compliance, architectural design intent, quality auditing, client involvement and education and preconstruction planning all require clear and concise communication to deliver effective project implementation.
What is the most important aspect of effective communication?
Through my experiences, the one thing that enhances all communication is listening. As stated in Dale Carnegie’s classic “How to Win Friends & Influence People”, he refers to Isaac Marcosson's quote, “Very important people have told me that they prefer good listeners to good talkers, but the ability to listen seems rarer than almost any other good trait.” More listening ensures the correct information is passed from one individual to another and eliminates grey areas in decision-making.
Can a company’s culture effect communications?
All communications need to be consistent with the company’s culture to deliver lasting impressions on the marketplace, clients, and individuals. A realization that every time you communicate with someone, you are acting as a direct reflection of your company is necessary. Constancy of communication is a key in building long-term relationships – which will outlive any economic environment.
